Professor Chingling Wo (English) Receives Petaluma River Park’s “Coastal Stories” Grant and Serves as Chinese Coastal Stories Researcher.

As a grant recipient of Petaluma River Park’s Coastal Stories project, Professor Chingling Wo serves as the Chinese story researcher. Her work draws from Chinese- and English-language sources to deepen understanding of local Chinese laborers’ contributions along the Petaluma Slough.

According to Dr. Wo, “My work is only a small part of the larger efforts led by local artist and historian Lina Hoshino and the Petaluma Historic Chinatown Park Committee, organizers of the upcoming museum exhibition Petaluma Chinatown Unearthed (May 2025). They have led a grassroots effort to rename Petaluma’s Center Park as Historic Chinatown Park and to install a plaque honoring the Chinese community’s role in the city’s 19th-century development. Their ongoing work continues to need community support—through donations of time, money, and thoughtful consideration. I’m honored to be involved and hope others at SSU and beyond will join us in supporting this meaningful effort.”
