Atrocity & Genocide Prevention Simulation

What is the Atrocity and Genocide Prevention Simulation (POLS 250)?

This 3-unit course offered in the Department of History and Political Science at Sonoma State University is dedicated to better understanding, predicting, and preventing mass atrocity and genocide. The course culminates in a multiplayer simulation of an international response to an emerging atrocity threat that will take place towards the end of the semester. In this simulation, students will experience the challenges faced by decision-makers as they interpret and assess cascades of information and adapt their policies accordingly. This is an interactive course.

The Human Rights Studies Minor (HRSM)

POLS 250 (Atrocity and Genocide Prevention Simulation) is a required course for the Human Rights Studies Minor (HRSM) in the Department of History and Politics at Sonoma State University. Tying together a longstanding emphasis on human rights across the curriculum at SSU into an easily doable, 15-17 unit academic minor, the HRSM allows students to tailor their coursework to their own disciplinary strengths and thematic interests. The HRSM attracts students pursuing careers in law, politics, NGOs, environmental policy, public health, and related fields.
