Mon, Apr 27, 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm

The Feet in the Mud workshop series start Mondays at 4 -5:30 PM: April 13, April 20, & April 27

This workshop series, led and facilitated by Professor Chingling Wo (Sonoma State University, English Department), explores Chinese migration, labor, and exclusion through historical documents, newspapers, and census records. Participants will engage in mini-lectures, hands-on activities, and group discussions that aim to humanize Chinese immigrants beyond reductive racialized narratives. Local teachers interested in teaching the history of Chinese laborers in Petaluma are especially encouraged to attend.

Workshop 3 (April 27)—Stages of Chinese Exclusion

This workshop traces how Chinese workers were systematically pushed out of mining, factories, and agricultural labor, and considers why exclusion did not ultimately benefit white workers.
