Join us for the 2025 Symposium on Friday, May 2, 2025!

What is SASSy?

The mission of SASSy is to provide students with a forum to develop, present, discuss, and gain feedback on research and creative works related to issues of social justice, broadly conceived. SASSy fulfills this mission by hosting a formal conference that incorporates students, faculty and community members’ voices and provides opportunities for students to practice skills in research presentation, oral communication, and intellectual dialogue.

Is SASSy the right place for my project?

Submissions to SASSy may include historical or contemporary studies on social justice topics including, but not limited to, issues of human rights, environmental justice, reproductive rights, economic inequality, prejudice and discrimination, criminal justice systems, wealth and poverty, educational access, racism, gender/sexuality, popular/political struggles, and political polarization. Relevant projects may represent formal research studies or engaged studies connected to critically understanding and/or supporting social justice work.

SASSy is designed to support a wide range of students and their work. Eligible projects may include:

  • Independent undergraduate or graduate projects where data collection is in progress or finished.
  • Senior seminar or capstone class projects or papers
  • Research projects or term papers
  • Conference presentations from Fall 2024 or Spring 2025 on which the student appears as lead author
  • Research projects associated with McNair and Koret Scholar programs
