Opportuntities for Students

Transform your educational experience by getting involved in academic research and/or creative activity!

The McNair Scholars Program prepares undergraduate students for doctoral studies through involvement in research and other scholarly activities. At SSU, the program helps 27 undergraduate students per year prepare for and get accepted into graduate school. McNair participants are either first-generation college students with financial need or members of a group that is traditionally underrepresented in graduate education and have demonstrated strong academic potential. The goal of the McNair Scholars Program is to place more historically underrepresented students in Masters and Ph.D. programs.

The Office of Research & Sponsored Programs (ORSP) is the hub for research, scholarship, and creative activity (RSCA) opportunities at Sonoma State. ORSP provides support for students conducting scholarship both on and off campus.

Once you've completed your research or creative activity, ORSP helps students who want to present on campus (at SSU's Week of Research and Creativity) or off campus (including the CSU Student Resesarch Competition).

Work with an HSSA faculty member on their research! SSURI is designed to engage sophomore and junior SSU students in the "research life" of the university. The program offers financial support for students and faculty to work together on a shared research project.

Most departments in the College of Humanities, Social Sciences, and the Arts offer opportunities for students to get academic credit for research and/or creative activity (through special studies) or while they gain real world experience (through internships). Please talk to a faculty advisor in your department for details.
